Mumbai: The city police arrested a businessman from Gujarat for allegedly circulating an online image of a woman, with whom she married illegally, and cyber also harassed her family.
The 21-year-old complainant committed suicide when he approached the MHB Colony police station on Tuesday, officials said.
The police calmed him and advised him.
They made an arrest within 24 hours.
The complainant is a former K Goklani employee, who is accused, who runs an online business.
Goklani used to travel to Mumbai to work.
He has a relationship with the woman, who at that time his employees, and they tied the knot earlier this year.
About seven months later, the complainant knew that Goklani was married and walked to him when their marriage violated the law.
“Goklani then created a fake account on Instagram and posted photos and videos of inappropriate women.
He also sent these pictures to his relatives and friends,” said a police officer, with anonymity requirements.
The researchers investigated whether Goklani had also harassed another woman too, added the officer.
“The complainants and sisters cried when they visited the police station on Tuesday.
They said that obscene texts were sent to their family members and their telephone numbers were posted with obscene messages on the web portal,” the officer said.
The victim’s sister complained that her marriage was canceled as a result.
The police started their investigation by tracking the login on the fake Instagram account and the IP address used.
They found that it belonged to Goklani.
Trap arranged and he was arrested when he visited Mumbai on Wednesday.
The local court sent him to police custody for two days.
Goklani has been charged with voyeurism and defamation under the relevant parts of the Indian criminal code, in addition to the provisions of the Information Technology Act.
