New Delhi: Head of Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday inaugurated the newly rebuilt Chandni Chowk market and announced that the entire area would be converted into a tourist center by operating the road food connection until midnight.
Kejriwal said people from all cities came to see the market that developed back and has now become a “most important tourist destination”.
Overcoming meetings near Fountain Chowk in Chandni Chowk’s main market, Kejriwal said that after rebuilding, Chandni Chowk became more beautiful and people came here to walk until midnight.
“It has become an important tourist spot.
I know that people come here to roam until 12 in the morning.
The road food joints will be left open for 3-4 hours until 12 am so people can come here at At night and enjoy.
Many street food connections will be opened after the closing of the market, “Kejriwal announced.
Previously this project will be inaugurated on April 17 this year but canceled because of the second wave of Covid-19.
Kejriwal said that the roads were damaged before, the cable hung, traffic jams were identical to Chandni Chowk but now becoming beautiful and attractive aesthetically.
“We have beautified 5.4 km of Chandni Chowk’s market stretch and makes it very beautiful.
Traffic on enhanced stretches, hanging cables made underground, CCTV is installed under the rebuilding project,” Kejriwal said.
In the rebuilding project, the main Chandni Chandni stretch between the red fortress and the crossing of the Fatehpuri Mosque had been increased and beautified.
The stretch has been developed as a pedestrian-friendly corridor and is made aesthetic with the help of red granite, decorative lights and plant and street furniture etc.
The stretch has been made “no traffic zone” for motorized vehicles between 9am and 9.

According to PWD officials, this project was approved in August 2018 and worked in December 2018.
It must be completed in March 2020 but the project was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and the deadline was pushed to December 2020.
The project was postponed further and set for inauguration in April This year but the event was canceled because of the surge in Covid-19 case on the second wave.
