Jaipur: Minister of Agriculture Lal Chand Kataria said the government planned to change the Camel Rajasthan (Prohibition of Massacre & Temporary Migration Regulations) acting, 2015 which placed restrictions on animal transportation both inside and outside the state and outside the state.
Camel is declared a country animal under this action.
The country’s camel population has witnessed a drastic reduction in recent years after passing as an animal purchase and sales have become a complicated process.
He said better mechanization and transportation facilities in rural areas also reduced dependence on camels.
The minister said the government would consider the proposal to set a camel on the gaushalas line for unwanted camels.
The minister answered the calling movement of the call by deputy leader opposition Rajendra Rathore in the reduced camel population in the state.
Rathore said the number of camels had witnessed a drastic decline in recent years.

The first major decline was registered between 1992 and 1997, when the number of camels decreased from 7.69 lakh to 6.69 lakh; The highest camel population in the country was 7.56 lakh in 1983.
However, the current figure of 2.13 lakh camels in the state was lower than 3.41 camels lakh in 1951.
