Chennai: The new watering hole has raised the bar on Chennai’s nightlife, literally! If the restrictions are reduced pushing Chennai youth to dress up, grab drinks and dance floors to defeat the Blues Kuncian, the new roof bar has given party drivers – both young and old – more places to confidently release their masks, let the hair down and have fun.
The city saw nearly 10 restobars opening since the pandemic was beaten and at least three of them had a roof area driving more middle-aged and older people to spend Friday or Saturday nights with friends, food and firewater.
If this new hangout managed to survive from a pandemic, a hospitality consultant said more space including big brands could enter the city next year.
Call it by chance, this roof-bar restaurant, although it may have a delayed start, redefining nightlife by opening when people are afraid of infection but still want to get out of their homes and socialize.
The latest in the city is a thief at the High Road Kodambakkam, which opened in July where young people no more than 22 years made the road to every weekend.
Scattered on three floors, the upper floor has an outdoor room complete with cabanas and the eclectic menu.
“The majority of our crowds are young people.
Our outside area is not only for those who are afraid of infection but also for those who want to smoke without having to walk to the exclusive smoke area.
We have seen some recurring customers who are loyal clients of our bartenders who are loyal Experienced, “said Kumar Sharma, operating manager.
“Our specialty is our own homemade cocktail and shooter who runs well with our multi food.
We will experiment and change our food and drink menus every three months we hope will retain our customers,” he added.
Arasu Dennis, Director of Implementing, Advertising Associates, a Hospitality Consultant said the pub scene and the city bar changed and had begun to issue a ‘vibration of Bengaluru’ where the restaurant-drawing bars were young and old who became permanent visitors.
His latest room in Anna Nagar was drawing a young and old crowd, especially because of the roof arrangement.
“Our roof mostly attracts people over the 50s and 60s.
Our concept is Foodboase and we focus on eating quality with drinks that will create loyal customers who will continue to return,” Dennis said.
The roof bar or pub is not new in the city.
Many star hotels already have it.
One of the latest is Koox at Novotel in Choamar Road offering only special Japanese cuisine which is a taste obtained but also a panoramic view of the heart of the city.
“Our customers are mostly in the late 20s,” said Kishore Tadikamalla, the food and beverage manager.

Hospitality Consultants say the city has seen a total of 136 restaurants since 2013.
And even some who opened in the past year will be opened in 2018 or 2019, if not because half a dozen licenses and strict procedures to get a nod from state authorities.
“Now we have a new government.
So far, we haven’t applied for a new license.
Opened recently it must be survived from a pandemic.
If they do it, then the scene will take next year.
Many big brands can open a shop here,” said Dennis .
