Gurgaon: ‘Smart Grid’ Smart Grid ‘Dakshin Haryana Bijli project, which was launched in 2016 in 2016 by Minister of Power Union Piyush faltered with the intention of curbing power outages in the city, has seen progress 40% in the past five years.
Phase 1 of a three-phase project, which aims to justify the electrical infrastructure in the old Gurgaon, only 60% complete.
The entire project initially had the deadline in June 2019.
Now, it will take two more years to be resolved if the work runs smoothly, said discoming officials.
DHBVN has quoted resistance from locals, lack of funds, construction prohibitions and labor shortages as reasons for delays.
Of the 580 feeders that must be placed underground in the first phase, only 195 operations.
This feeder covers sector 17, 21, 23, 23, 28, 28, 31, 32, 39, 39, 42 and 43, Palm Vihar, DLF-1 and several blocks of Sushant Lok.
Of the 2,000 km of underground power cable, only 1,200 km which has been placed.
Work is expected to be complete at 2022-end, which will open the way for the project phase 2.
For the second phase, land has been completed in sector 52 to build supervisor supervisor infrastructure and data acquirtions (SCADA), which will act as a one-stop solution because the manual work of the discom can be monitored remotely.
Under the third phase, almost 1.3 lakh smart meters have been installed throughout Gurgaon, which 1.14 lakh has a reading and automatic billing feature.
Discom officers quote several reasons for delays in project solutions.
The first and foremost reasons, they said, were opposition from residents.
“We have faced many examples where people object to put down the underground cable.
We often get a call from the council not to explore the ground and many other similar problems,” said Superintending Engineer Dhbvn Jaideep Phogat to Ti.
Phogat also said funds for the project had been reduced.
Failure in the planning and implementation of work by private companies that carry out projects, the rainy season and prohibition on excavation issued by the MCG also contributed to delays.
In addition, the spread of workers has been substantially influenced due to pandemic, phoggat said.
“For example, there are 400 technical and skilled workers working from L & T (one of the private companies) before, which is only 250 returns.
The company struggles to catch up with work,” he added.
