Nagpur: serious note about dangerous public health and environmental impacts caused by coal-based corporate thermal power plants (KTPS) in Nagpur, Bench Pune Green Tribunal (NGT) issues notifications to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) , Maharashtra (MPCB) and Mahagenco pollution control agency, the State Power State Plant Pradyumna Sahasrabhojanee.
The petition highlights various violations of the Environmental Permit given to the power plant in 2010 and changed in 2017.
It was put forward through the Ritwick Dutta environmental lawyer the applicant accused that the plant shifted from the location permitted and taken around 3 km closer to the city.
“Norma flouts, no fresh permission was obtained for the conversed location,” the petition stated sulfur dioxide emissions.
TOI has repeatedly reported environmental, agricultural and healthy damage from the FGD in the Koradi causing in the city.
“Power plants released a very dangerous gas from SO2 in large amounts, which far exceeded the permitted standards.
This caused a negative impact on the health and welfare of individuals who lived in the nearest villages and the city of Nagpur,” the petition stated.
As reported by Toi, the factory also has not implemented 100% norms of flariness utilization.
“For 2018-19, Mahagenco produced more than 26 metric metrics (MT) from Fly Ash but had used only around 7 lakh MT.
This means that it only utilizes 29.3% of the total flying ash produced,” the petition states Adding that according to the Regulation of the Amendment to the Fly Ash notice released in 2009, 100% utilization of Fly Ash within four years of factory operation is mandatory.

More violations, the petition states that Mahagenco also failed to develop a green belt around a thermal power plant stabbed.
“KTPS is not permitted to use freshwater for plant operations, and is only permitted to use water treated from waste treatment plants (STP).
Instead, Mahagenco has built Weir over the Nag River and river water pumped to the STP blpandadi and then to the factory.
Even though KTPS Claiming that only 23% of the water requirements are filled with fresh water, in fact all KTPS water needs are filled with it, “added the request.
Closing that is released from such crimes, no concrete actions have been carried out by the relevant authorities, the applicant has appealed to the court to publish the direction that all the requirements set in the Environmental Permit are carried out.
“Direction instructions are also given to shift the location of the power plant of 2350 meters without finding fresh environmental permits for new locations.
Also, the installation of the FGD which is bound time must be ascertained,” they stated.
The applicant also demanded catatos from the new 2×660 megawatt (MW) reference provisions (MW) and a signal to destroy the work done.
