New Delhi: India and Colombia exchanged views on the possibility of scientific cooperation in the biotechnology sector because the latter showed the willingness to bond in the field of vaccines, biosimilar and medical devices.
The high-level delegation from Colombia led by Marta Lucia Ramirez de Rincón, vice president and foreign minister, visited the biotechnology department and held a meeting with the Indian delegation led by the Secretary, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Renu Swarup.
Calling the Health and Biotechnology Sector The main priority field owned by mutual interest, Rincón said he was looking forward to cooperation to build sustainable biotechnology ecosystems.
There are reciprocal exchanges about the possibility of scientific cooperation areas in the biotechnology sector, said the Ministry of Science and technology in a statement.
“To formalize cooperation, the intention letter is proposed to be executed between the Ministry of Science and technology on the Indian side and the Ministry of Science, technology and innovation on the Colombian side,” the Ministry said.
Swarup said: “The Indian biotechnology industry is intended to reach USD150 billion bio-economics in 2025.
Look forward to bilateral cooperation in the fields of shared scientific interest.” Fernando Ruiz Gomez, Minister of Health and Social Protection, Colombia, said that India was well-known as a global vaccine manufacturing center and stated willingness to collaboration in the field of vaccine, biosimilar and medical devices.
Appreciating Indian achievements over the past few decades in the S & T sector, Sergio Cristancho, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Colombia, said that they hoped to replicate the model of India Generation and innovation and hope to develop sustainable collaborative initiatives.
Swarup, Secretary, DBT and DST, said he hoped through this visit bilateral partnership, can be taken to the next level in the field of shared scientific interest.
Warning that biotechnology is one of the most recent sectors and that the Indian biotechnology industry is intended to reach USD150 billion bio-economics in 2025, Swarup expresses hope to work together in achieving the target.
Previously during the meeting, a general review of the spectrum of activities supported by DST and DBT in the psychology sector, efforts by BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Pay Pay industrial assistance) in maintaining start-up biotechnology and innovation ecosystems, provided.
