Bhubaneswar: After a gloomy show by Congress in the election of the pleaded assembly which had just concluded, the President of the Niranjan Party State Unit Patnaik on Thursday said he was ready to get out of his post if the high command wants.
“I have offered to resign from my post after our poor performance in the 2019 assembly and the selection of Lok Sabha too.
But all Indian Congress Committee (AICC) wants me to lead the party in the state.
Even now I am ready to submit my position.
We have many leaders who are eligible to replace me.
I am not permanently here, “Niranjan told the media in the midst of talk about him after sending his resignation letter to the party chairman Sonia Gandhi.
Even though Niranjan was not confirmed or referred to speculation, he said he would continue to lead the Pradesh (PCC) Congress Committee (PCC) to AICC to make decisions about changes in leadership in the state, if at all.
The performance of the congress deteriorated in the pipeline with party candidates, Bishwokeshan Harichandan Mohapatra, barely fulfilled 4,261 votes, which contributed 2.36% of the total surveyed votes.
It is less than 5.63% of the votes guaranteed in the 2019 assembly poll when Ajit Mangaraj is his candidate.
Niranjan was appointed as President of the Congress in April 2018 after a rebellion in the party against his predecessor, Prasad HariChandan.
Contrary to speculation that the congress will rise under the leadership of Niranjan, he faces the worst election disaster in the 2019 election and four Bypoll held after the general election.
Niranjan has faced pressure for a while from the party.
