Chennai: A Batch 1992 IRS officer was convicted of corruption and sentenced to undergoing a four-year prison by a special court for the CBI case in Chennai.
Along with the officers, R Sekar, who was a protector of Emigrants in Chennai during the relevant period, travel agents were also found guilty by additional XI special courts for CBI cases and were sentenced to a strict prison for four years.
The total fine of RS 6.1 Lakh was applied to the duo.
However, Sekar’s wife was released from all charges.
CBI, in October 2009, ordered Sekar, Wife and Anwar Hussain, a classic tourist owner of M / S and traveling in Chennai on charges of having assets known as sources of income.
According to prosecution, inmates have accumulated a wealth of 471% more than the source of revenue known.
It was said that between January 2007 and July 2009, Sekar and his wife entered the conspiracy to obtain a wealth of less than Rs 2.08 Crore, which was disproportionate with their known source of income.
Anwar Hussain has ended the acquisition and has assets by government officials and it is used as a channel for bribery collection in the form of fast money to issue emigration permits.
Prosecution said Anwar Hussain’s Travel Company also acted as a labor agent who sent workers abroad.
Sekar has demanded bribes from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 to issue emigration permits.
When in the office, Sekar has cleaned around 350 to 400 applications every day.
Some bribes are also used to buy engineering seats at a college for the son of the IRS officer, according to prosecution.
After reading all the submissions, a Thiruvenkata Seenivasan, an additional judge, a special court for CBI cases, was held that prosecution proved their argument and punished official agents and travel for tight prisons.
