Thane: a 25-year-old man was killed allegedly by a group of people after they thought he was a thief in the Thane Maharashtra district, the police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m.
on Saturday in the city of Bhiwandi here, an official said from the Narpoli police station.
The defendant arrested the victim, identified as Ramesh Murli Dharma, the son of an automatic rickshaw driver, and thought he was a thief, he said.
They allegedly beat him severely with iron rods and sticks and then escaped.
The death toll at that place, said the official.
The culprit was identified as one of the Panchgulam Gupta and his servant, but the number of accused was not determined in FIR, which was listed under the part of the Indian Code 302 (murder) and 34 (actions carried out by several people with the continuation of general intentions).
The body was sent to a government hospital in Bhiwandi for Postmortem, police said.
No arrests have been made so far in this case, they added.
