Chennai: Tamil Nadu will show ‘great progress’ on the plastic front, because the country has launched several campaigns to implement a single plastic ban on use, the government has told Madras High Court.
Submission for this effect was made before the Justice division bench S Vaidyanathan and Justice P T Asha, by the Secretary of the State Supriya Sahu.
Record submissions, the bench suggested to officers that such a campaign, especially through the media, must be done even in private channels, so that it will reach a large number of public members.
“The main minister can do a little for eradication campaigns,” said the court.
The court then directed the officers to report the steps taken towards the combined plastic, especially after the meeting titled Pragati (Proactive Governance and Timely Implementation) held by the Prime Minister on February 24.
The problem relates to the petition review was transferred by the Tamil Nadu-Pondy plastic association to review orders forwarded on December 27, 2018 on a defense that moved against a single plastic ban.
When the request came to hear, Supriya Sahu, which appeared directly, said the country had taken around 14 different steps / campaigns to overcome this problem.
“The steering panel has been put in place to monitor the entire campaign for plastic eradication.
We will be able to report substantial progress within three months,” he said.
He further added that the state has taken steps to create awareness among the public through visual and audio media for public senses.
On December 27, 2018 while rejecting the original request that was transferred by the association, the court observed that even the excluded products under the prohibition of single plastic use must also be prohibited from making the state fully plastic.
The court also questioned the logic behind plastic prohibitions carrying bags, while allowing milk and food for sale in plastic packaging.
