Porvorim: Goa (Verification of tenants) Bill, 2021, which was introduced at the Cave Assembly on Monday, has proposed a more stringent penalty for those who failed to submit details about their tenants to the police.
Violators stood facing six-month prison requirements, and a fine of up to 10,000 rs.
The bill put Onus on the homeowner to verify the Bonafides and check the identity of the tenant before providing them accommodation.
Photo identity can be a document issued by the Government – Election Card, SIM, Aadhaar card, etc.
The government claims that the bill will also strengthen the verification of tenants and provide better security to residents considering a large number of tourists who visit the country and migrants live in rented accommodation.
“Every owner must maintain a tenant record like that and will submit the information, in such forms and in such ways and for the officer, as determined,” said the bill.
“A police officer is not under the rank of the police chief …
has the right to check anytime the time record needed to be maintained under Section 3.” In addition to giving punishment of this negligence, the bill also said that “violations that can be punished below this section can be exacerbated by the officers because the government can with notifications in the official post-pointing sheet, payment for credit loans does not exceed Rs 10,000 as determined by the Government” .
The bill also provides “no court besides the Judge Judicial Court Judicial will admit, and try violations under this action”.
The bill said that the government could provide direction to one of his departments or agents, local authorities or people to collect and verify the identity of the identity of tenants who occupy the place and maintenance of records.
