Thane: Police confiscated 2,500 kg of beef worth Rs 2.50 lakh from van in the city of Thane in Maharashtra and arrested a person, police said on Wednesday.
The van was intercepted by police and activists near Jupiter Hospital on a tip-off at small hours Tuesday, said an official, added that red meat was smuggled to Mumbai.
The person arrested was identified as Aslam Fakir Mohammad Shaikh who was driving a vehicle.
The case is registered under the preservation law of Maharashtra, Indian criminal code, and ACT motor vehicle, said the official.
