Coimbatore: City Corporation has launched a mass cleaning drive to eliminate the many wastes produced during the celebration of the Puja Ayudha last week.
Replacing workers began to clear the road on Thursday after Ti highlighted the problem on Wednesday.
All available resources have been deployed to remove garbage carelessly on the streets.
The waste handling facility in Ukkadam and Peellamedu was operated throughout the night intervention Thursday and Friday to shift the waste collected to the VellaLore waste disposal page.
“We received instructions from the office of the Commissioner to clear the waste on Friday night.
Even though we cannot clean it completely, the streets are much cleaner now,” said a health official of the South Zone.
Usually, festivals such as Ayudha Puja and Pongal leave a large number of garbage on the streets.
The Ayudha Puja festival recently produced about three times the 850 tons of waste produced on ordinary days.
