Rajkot: What was once a sweet monopoly of the Naga Tanah, Kutch Manufacturer now gave their Chinese colleagues for their money in the salt tablet business, also known as a sodium chloride tablet, which softened hard and made it can be taken.
Ironically, salt tablets, per se, is a monopoly of three Kutch manufacturers throughout the country and even though they hardly have requests in the domestic market, their export figures are impressive.
The trio exported around 7,000 tons of salt tablets every year to England, France, Germany, Italy in European countries and bays including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Dubai which are some of their main importers.
While China tablets are worth $ 180 to 200 per ton, Indian salt tablets take $ 120 per ton.
There is a decent request for tablets in several countries in South America too.
The salt tablet requires the highest quality, premium double processed salt as raw material, while each tablet weighs between seven and 15 grams.
European countries, bay and South America have water that has high concentrations of dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium.
Hard water can cause skin problems and hair fall.
It also makes stains in the sink, plates and bathtubs while it also reduces the work capacity of the laundry detergent, body soap and shampoo.
The majority of houses and hotels in these countries are equipped with a water softening machine that involves dissolving salt tablets on the salt water tank regularly to make water can be taken.
Also, in many countries, hard water treatment is obliged to avoid industrial accidents such as explosion boiler opportunities.
Vinod Soni based in Anjar, who pioneered salt tablet production in India, said that high sea freight charges hampered the growth of this sector.
“When we are now competing with China and exporting around 7,000 tons of tablets per year, high sea freight charges do not make it worthy for us to export more.
If it is still controlled, we will be able to export more,” said Soni.
A recent study estimates that the water softening market in Europe will reach $ 849 million in 2026.
Other tablet manufacturers, Inderjit Singh based in Gandhidham, said that despite being low, there was demand in the domestic market as well.
“This tablet enjoys a large market abroad, but slowly, Indian consumers in Metro cities are built with the benefits of using water softener to avoid the dangers of hard water,” Singh said.
