LONDON: The British government mostly wasted Mammoth £ 37 billion ($ 51 billion, 44 billion euros) in the test program and trail which failed to control the spread of Covid-19 years ago, a report by parliamentarians said on Wednesday.
The government and his non-experienced head for this program, Dido Harding, displayed “Gung-ho Creative”, said Chair of the Common Common Committee Committee.
“But in the end the massive promised for what he conveyed and it was the watery amount of money,” Meg Hillier, from the Opposition Labor Party, told BBC radio.
“It is one of the greatest concerns – almost as if taxpayers are ATM machines.
The lack of appreciation for taxpayer funding is a real concern for us as a committee,” he said.
When a pandemic erupted early last year, England tried to build from the beginning of the mass program to test new cases and track infected people.
But the kasel immediately exploded and the country now has the second highest victim in Europe, behind Russia.
Parliamentary members said Harding and the government had relied too many expensive outside contractors instead of networks in the national health services managed by the government.
The absorption of the service offered by this program is “variable” and “only a small portion of the person who experiences Covid-19 symptoms get a test”, the report said.
Overall, it was concluded, the scheme “did not achieve its main goal to help solve the Covid-19 transmission chain and allow people to return to a more normal way of life”.
The government defended the testing program, insisted that more people now receive tests than in other European countries.
Jenny Harries, Head of the British Health Security Agency, said it was “saving lives every day and helped us fight Covid-19 by breaking the transmission chain and seeing the outbreak wherever they are”.
