Ahmedabad: Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Troops (ATS) have damaged the illegal internet protocol telephone (VoIP) exchanges here and arrested a man with 139 SIM cards, said an official on Wednesday.
Based on tip-off, the ATS team invaded the Sakib apartment in the Juhapura region in the city on Tuesday and captured Shahid Saiyad, who runs the illegal call center using four SIM, Laptop and Router LAN boxes, said Pinakin Parmar, police supervisor, Gujarat ATS.
SIM box is a device that can accommodate multiple SIM cards and use as part of the VoIP gateway installation.
Introduction investigation has revealed that the call center was founded by Najib PP, Indigenous Kerala, with the help of his aides Amit, a resident of Pune and one Sohail, the official said.
“Najib runs a call center from Bahrain.
Because video calls using applications such as WhatsApp is prohibited in the Gulf countries, Indians who live there must pay according to the ISD level to make international calls here.

The police have recovered 139 SIM cards installed in the SIM box to produce VoIP calls, he said.
As directed by Najib and Sohail, the defendant who was arrested began a VoIP-based call center in Juhapura area about a year ago, he said.
“This call center is used to convert international calls that enter into normal voice calls using VoIP technology.
It is illegal and on the rules set by the Department of Telecommunications.
This activity also results in the loss of income to the government,” Parmar said.
While Saiyad was arrested on charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy among other parts, all three were accused of escaping, he said.
In learning that Najib also operates another call center in the Mira road area in Mumbai, team with ATS and Mumbai police invaded flat on ND Plaza No.3 on Tuesday and called one Sajjad SaIyad with 115 SIM cards and other equipment.
Further investigation in the case was carried out by Mumbai police, the official added.
