The utility crew worked on Thursday to restore power to hundreds of thousands of houses and businesses in New England after a Nor’Easter exploded the coast with a gust of hurricane.
More than 300,000 customers do not have Thursday morning service, the Massachusetts emergency management agency reported.
Hundreds of other blackouts were reported at Rhode Island.
This could be a matter of days before power was fully restored in several Southeast Massachusetts areas, said the utility.
The strongest storm gusts were recorded at 94 MPH (151 MPH) on the island of Martha vineyards, officials said.
Some schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island canceled Thursday’s class because cleaning continues and residents count damage.
In Quincy, Massachusetts, a storm blew the roof of an apartment complex, forced the occupants of 12 units to stay in a hotel, WBZ News Radio reported.
At the nearest Weymouth, the Red Cross opens a shelter for residents who lose strength.
In New Jersey, a driver was killed and other injured in the city of Morris when limbs fell.
The authorities in New York also restored the body of a kayak who disappeared Tuesday from Long Island.
