New Delhi: Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi gave an emotional award to his grandmother’s former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at the 37th anniversary and described his funeral as the second most difficult day in his life.
In a video released on YouTube, Rahul told him that his grandmother told him not to cry if something happened to him.
“(In) morning before he died he told me that don’t cry if something happened to me.
I don’t understand what he meant and two- three hours later he died,” Rahul Gandhi said.
Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister later, was killed in 1984 by two security guards related to Khalistani extremists.
In the video titled ‘with Love, to remember my beloved grandmother, Indira Ji’, Rahul said that Indira felt before that she could be killed.
“He (Indira Gandhi) sort of feels that he will be killed and I think everyone at home also knows it.
He once said to us at the dining table that the biggest curse would die because of a disease,” said the former Congress’s head.
From his point of view it might be the best way to die for his country, defending the idea that he loves, Gandhi said.
He said he basically had two mothers – “A super mother who is my grandmother, who will basically defend me when my father is angry, and my mother”.
For me it was like losing my mother, Gandhi added.
Images of Indira Gandhi’s funeral and the last ritual are also part of a video that shows a young haul grieving from her grandmother’s death.
Earlier on Sunday, Rahul Gandhi paid a tribute to Indira Gandhi in the warning “Shakti STHAL” here.
“My grandmother serves the country without fear until the last time – his life is the source of inspiration for us,” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.
“A great example of women’s strength, humble tribute to Mrs.
Indira Gandhi on her martyrdom day,” he said.
