Kolkata: A 91-year-old woman was found dead – with blood flowing from her nose – by her son in the bedroom in the apartment on the ninth floor in the 11-storey Jamuna Ganga apartment at Shakespeare sared on Tuesday morning.
Renuka Chowdhury was declared dead when his son Abhay took him to the SSKM hospital.
Post-Mortem’s initial report said he had died of suffocating around midnight.
Combined CP (crime) Murlidhar Sharma confirmed post-mortem findings and added: “The required probe is on”.
DCP (South) Akash Magharia said all corners were being examined given the fact that victims were found bleeding.
Then on that day, the police detained Doodhkumar Dhal, a former family driver, from Danankuni.
Abhay, in his statement to the police, said he found a suspicious death for bleeding and mentioned that his mother’s room door opened.
The police source also said that some of the victims’ valuables and cellphones were lost from the bedroom.
Some people who work in buildings are being questioned.
Police also seek detailed opinions about forensic experts about possible reasons that might cause freezing.
According to the police source, Renuka lives with his son Abhay – a rented accountant – in this apartment.
