Mangaluru: A ninth-grade student has developed an anti-sleep device for a thrilling driver and send alarm if the driver closes his eyes for more than two seconds while driving.
‘Lifeline Vinidraa’ has been designed by D Chinmaya Gowda, a student from Jnanodaya Bethany Pu College, Nellyadi.
Chinmaya told the Toi that as part of the competition, the teacher had asked him to find a solution to the problem.
“Because our school is located close to Jalan Raya Mangaluru-Bengaluru, we often witness an accident.
When I try to understand why the accident takes place, I realize that driving directs killing, but it can be prevented.
I started researching further on the internet.
I watch some videos Online and read about available devices and discuss the same thing with my father.
Under my teacher’s guidance, I spend almost two months developing a low-cost device that can be placed on a spectacle frame, “he said.
He worked on this project together with his classmates Rithik Shetty and most of the material was purchased online.
The device has been developed at a cost of Rs 1,000.
There are no side effects and can save the lives of drivers especially at night, he said.

Chinmaya is Chandrashekar Gowda’s son, a businessman and farmer and Chethana Gowda, a housewife who lives in Shishila Village in Belthangady Taluk.
Chandrashekar said, “This device can be set with industry support and released into the market.
My child is still working on various other aspects.
Like a seat belt, if wearing an anti-sleep device is made mandatory, we might be able to save lives.”
Teacher Science Pranavi B said the school sent devices for the competition of the National Science Project.
“Chinmaya is always interested in developing a unique science model.
Before starting work on the model, he shared the idea of the project and the school pushed him to forward it.
He continued to tell us about developments at each stage and used to share videos for feedback,” he added.
