Baghdad: A drone is loaded with explosives targeting the residence of Prime Minister of Iraq Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in the early Baghdad on Sunday in what was called the Iraqi military tried, but said Kadhimi fled.
The statement from the Iraqi military said the attack targets Kadhimi’s residence in the enriched Green Zone of Baghdad.
This does not provide further details.
Kadhimi’s official Twitter account said the Prime Minister was safe and called for tranquility.
Two government officials said Kadhimi’s residence had been hit by at least one explosion and was confirmed to Reuters that the Prime Minister was safe.
There were no groups that immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Western diplomats are based at Green Zone, who accommodate government buildings and embassies, say they heard explosions and shots in the area.
Supporters of heavy armed groups that are in harmony with Iran in the last few weeks contradict the demonstration near the green zone protesting the results of the general election last month handling their parliamentary power.
