Death of Infant India During the decade: Small countries make big steps, urban-rural gaps continue

New Delhi: The last decade has seen India making a consistent increase in infant mortality (IMR).
The latest sample registration system report shows the Indian IMR dropped from 50 per 1,000 live births in 2009 to 39 of 2014 and further to 30 in 2019.
However, the increase is not the same, with some countries outperforming other people with good margins.
Urban-rural gap is also very clear.
IMR in villages is significantly higher than the city area in most states.
Some countries are made much better in the first five years (2009-14), compared to the last half of this decade.
This resulted in countries that traditionally appear better to stretch the gap with others.
