Jerusalem: Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared in court for the first time in more than half a year on Tuesday as the first mereign prepared to take a close attitude in high profile corruption cases.
But a long-awaited testimony was postponed until next week after the legal challenge of Netanyahu’s lawyer.
Nir Hefetz, former Netanyahu Aide, was a witness to prosecute stars in this case against Netanyahu, with his closeness to Netanyahu for several years in the office of the proof.
Hefetz left a long career in journalism in 2009 to work as a spokesman for Netanyahu, then in 2014 a spokesman for Netanyahu’s family and adviser.
Netanyahu entered the courtroom Tuesday accompanied by lawyers, his younger son, Avner, and a pair of supporters from his Likud party.
The presence of security around the building was much smaller than the past session, when Netanyahu was the prime minister.
His lawyer immediately asked that Tuesday session would be delayed after another report that came with new evidence that was alleged that Netanyahu’s wife, Sara, had received expensive bracelets as a gift from two billionaire friends, Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan and billionaire milchan and billionaire.
Netanyahu’s lawyer argues that the former prime minister and his wife was caught by the accusation and had the right to study the evidence before Hefetz took a stand.
After a short break, the court received requests and delayed Hefetz’s testimony until next Monday.
Some dozen supporters waiting Netanyahu outside the building, with one person yelling at the reporter “We will throw you into the trash.” Netanyahu has been accused of fraud, violating trust and accepting bribes in three separate cases.
The first involved Netanyahu who was suspected of receiving a prize worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from rich friends, including Milchan and Packer.
In the second case, Netanyahu was accused of regulating positive coverage in Israel’s main paper in exchange for promoting laws that would damage the main rival of paper.
The third, nicknamed the case of 4000, requires Netanyahu which allegedly passed the law worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the owner of the Israeli telecommunications giant BEZEQ in return on positive coverage on the Walla news site.
In 2018, after he was arrested by the police in connection with the 4000 cases, Hefetz signed an agreement of the State Witness and gave researchers with recording conversations with Netanyahu and his family.
But because of his close relationship with the former Prime Minister, the testimony of Hefetz is likely to be relevant to the three cases.
The former Prime Minister has denied mistakes.
As Prime Minister, Netanyahu rejected the call to resign when under the charges, using his position to attack on law enforcement, media and court.
But Netanyahu failed to win the re-election in four consecutive elections, with voters to be deadlocked for their leadership and trial.
Earlier this year, he was overthrown from the office after a rival constellation was successfully rocky with the ruling coalition without the dominant Likud Party.
He is now opposition leader in the Knesset, Israeli Parliament.
Netanyahu’s criminal trial began in 2020, while the country was involved in a prolonged political crisis and dealing with the start of Pandemic Coronavirus.
Witnesses began taking attitudes in April, and the process is expected to last several years.
