New Delhi: The Indian Navy will assign the destroyers of the Missiles and Submarines for Calvary classes next week in encouragement in their combat capabilities in the face of a security environment that changes rapidly in the face of China’s growth to the Indian Ocean region.
Deputy Admiral Satish Namdeo Ghormade, deputy head of the Navy staff, said the destroyer ‘Visakhapatnam’ will be assigned on November 21 while the Vela submarine will be appointed into strength on November 25.
The Navy Commander also said that as many as 39 naval and submarines are currently being built in various Indian shipyards which are expected to significantly increase Indian maritime skills.

“We live in time when the balance of global and regional strength shifts quickly and the area of ​​the fastest change is no doubt the Indian Ocean region,” the Commander said.
Therefore, Deputy Admiral Ghormade said sustainable efforts were to ensure that the level of force grew progressively to improve the ability of the Indian navy to meet the challenges that arise.
While the ‘Visakhapatnam’ warship will be assigned by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, the guest head at the Vela Induction Ceremony will be the Chief of Staff of the Rear Admiral Karambir Singh.
Both platforms have been built in Mazagon Dock Webuilders Limited.
The induction ceremony will be held on the force of the Navy in Mumbai.
“Visakhapatnam commissioning will reiterate the presence of India among a group of elite countries with the ability to design and build advanced warships,” said Deputy Admiral.
He said apart from a myriad of customary equipment in the ‘Float’ category and ‘Move’, the destroyer is also installed with many original weapons such as a missile system into the original air-to-air developed by Bharat Electronics Ltd, Surface-to-to -Surface Missiles by Brahmos Aerospace and torpedo tubes and launchers by L & T.
“The overall indigenous content of this project is around 75 percent,” he said.
Vela is the fourth submarine from the Kalvari class.
“Submarine buildings are sophisticated exercises that involve placing small components in sequence and logically in submarines because the space in very limited,” said Deputy Admiral Ghormade.
“Very few countries have this ability in their industrial capacity.
India has proven its ability to build our own submarines for the past 25 years,” he added.
