Kolkata: In a big assistance for the leader of West Bengal opposition Suvendu Adhikari, the division bench from the Calcutta High Court, while rejecting the state government’s request, upholding the single bench order and said that the state could not take punishment on it.
The country is investigating two cases including the case of his bodyguard and accusations to take money illegally on behalf of getting a job at the Maniktala police station – against Adhikari.
He has transferred a court seeking protection from arrests in these cases.
In September this year, the single bench Judge Rajsekhar Manthar had directed the police not to arrest him.
The state has submitted three other cases of opposition leaders but Manthar also lived three other cases and had directed state police to seek court permission before filing a new pine against Adhikari and arresting him.
The state challenged a single bench order but the bench of the Subrata Talukdar Justice Division and Jewar Justice Bhutia rejected the state government application.
Lawyer Suvendu Bilwadal Bhattacharya said, “We have submitted a case at the Calcutta High Court who claimed that some fake cases were submitted against Suvendu Adhikari.” Previously in this case, one bench from the Calcutta High Court Judge Rajshekhar Manthar had been directed not to catch him.
However, the state government appealed to the division bench against the sequence of a single bench.
Today’s division bench directed that the state should not pursue an appeal.
