Chennai: Heavy rain that shrinks many parts of the city on Thursday is likely to decrease because depression will cross the beach between Puducherry and Chennai early on Friday.
The Meteorology Department has predicted heavy rain in isolated places in Chennai and has issued an orange warning for possible rainfall in the range of 12cm to 20cm on Friday.
The yellow warning, for rainfall between 7cm and 11cm, has been issued for most of the North Coast regency on Friday.
Tamil Nadu has received 61% of excessive rainfall in the northeast southeast period from October 1 to date, the state government said on Thursday.
Authorities in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvalur District and Chengalpet have announced holidays for school on Friday.
While the average state rainfall on Thursday was 28.9mm, the Tirupur district recorded a 64.71mm high.
