Hyderabad: Buying fish on the streets and under no hygienic conditions might soon be something from the past.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has planned five modern fish markets at a cost of Rs 19.4 Crore.
Two is functional.
The decision was taken in the mind of several factors including the need for cleanliness and how the sale of fish on the streets disrupted traffic.
Additional benefits are that all seafood varieties will be available in the modern fish market.
Two modern fish markets in Nacharam and Kukatpally have begun to function.
The works are almost completed in two fish markets in Bugum Bazar and Mallapur.
Other fish markets, which are proposed in the Narayanaguda market, at a cost of Rs 4 Crore will soon be open, said an official.
