Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday presents a notification of showcuses to a private agency involved by it for garbage collection because it illegally collects user costs, costs imposed on household residents to produce household waste.
BMC also issues public notifications that tell people not to pay these fees to private agencies.
Only BMC officers are authorized to collect user fees.
BMC has launched a probe to find out how long the agency has collected costs.
“As informed by sanitation inspectors and supervisors, your organization collects user costs for solid waste collection and transportation from apartments, mass waste generators, malls, hotels, educational institutions, markets and other places which are violations of the agreement to cause BMC losses.

The explanation must come within two days of receipt of the notification, “said the notice.
BMC introduces user fees in 2016 to be collected from people because they spend a large amount of solid waste management.
It could not collect costs after several people moved Orissa the High Court challenged the move.
“We decided to move forward with a collection of users’ fees after the Supreme Court order that each case was delayed for six months without challenges or further processes would be deemed to have been canceled.
