Kolhapur: Kolhapur Regency has reported a stable increase in cases of crime against women since 2019, which the police said are also indicative of women who report the difficulties they face.
Data issued by the police showed that 162 cases of sexual violence had been registered this year between January and November.
During the appropriate period in 2019 and 2020, each there were 114 cases.
The number of sexual abuse cases also rose.
This year, until November-end, 316 cases of sexual abuse were reported in Kolhapur Regency, 272 and 205 of 2019.
Police data showed that the suspects were mostly known by the victims, had been arrested.
In 138 cases of sexual violence, the suspects were friends, neighbors, coworkers.
As many as 21 suspects in cases of sexual violence are parents and 32 foreigners.
In the case of sexual abuse, 280 suspects were acquaintances, 31 parents and five foreigners.
Police supervisor Shailesh Balcawade has asked the head of all police offices to every crime against women and not reject it.
“If the victim approaches us despite knowing that misuse or constituent is an acquaintance, it shows the trust they have in the steps adopted by us.
Special cells have been arranged in each police station, Helpline numbers for emergency calls etc.,” Balkawade said.
Balkawade said a new initiative would soon be launched to hold counseling the girls from Zilla Parishad schools, similar to the steps taken in Nagpur.
“We are waiting for school to continue physically fully to start a new initiative to make girls be aware of evil and what steps they have to bring in an emergency.
We have started counseling in several schools,” said Shailesh Balcawade.
