Margao: Tensions run high at Guidendolim and Chandor on Saturday after a group of villagers facing Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd.
(RVNL) on the work of filling Lake Nagozon and Rice Fields lying double for double tracking work.
They stopped the truck carrying mud.
The villagers accuse RVNL to disturb private property without getting land or without authorization.
When a RVNL official believes that land has been obtained, villagers demanded that relevant documents be produced.
This increases disputes and causes police intervention.
“The Church Authority has objected to the work done in its property.
The problem is before the Court of Deputy Collector, Vasco, who heard objections.
We are waiting for orders relating to this problem.
However, the train does not have the right to fill low fields and water bodies.
The train has filled the lake and low-blooded rice fields in just two days, “Antao Agostine, Chairman of the Biodiversity Management Committee Guirdolym, told TI.
Antao, along with several villagers, has submitted a complaint against RVNL officials for the incident with the police Curhorim Mala.
They have urged the police to take action in this problem and to ensure that the body of the water is restored.
The villagers are worried that charging lakes will block the natural flow of water into Rivulet Kushavati which leads to the soaking folli ward during the rain, thus pose a threat to mud houses in the environment.
After a similar incident almost two years ago, the South Goa District collector had directed train officials that mud was cleaned and the flow of water was restored.
