Children to lift plants, to feel agriculture

Thiruvananthapuram: As the price of vegetables skyrocketed in the city, the students of Nemom government ride the school took the path of independence.
With offline classes continued at school, Nemom U P students began vegetable cultivation on the school plot on Friday.
Plants, including spinach, finger of women, cold, long beans and bitter pumps will be cultivated in school compounds.
Students will be given the responsibility to raise plants.
Vegetable cultivation in school has been launched as part of the “Garden School Project,” which was organized by the State Agriculture Department, Kalliyor Grama Panchayat and Krishi Bhavan.
Some of the school compounds have been selected for vegetable cultivation.
In addition, 60 growing bags will also be used.
The entire agricultural process will be carried out by students, including sowing seeds, watering, plant care and heating.
This project aims to provide opportunities for school students in agriculture, grow agricultural culture and also to achieve self-sufficiency in agriculture.
It will also help students learn about the seed varieties and characteristics.
The students and school teachers sowed seeds on Friday morning, which were supplied by Kalliyor Krishi Bhavan.
School authorities plan to use harvest vegetables for the “Mid-Day Meal” scheme.
“This project also creates awareness among them to be independent.
They must understand the truth that the daily kitchen needs can be filled with small vegetable parks,” said A Mansoor, Principal of the school.
