LONDON: The owner of the Indian Serum Institute, Family of Poonawalla, has announced a donation of £ 50 million (RS 500 Crore) to Oxford University to build a new research center that focuses on vaccinology.
Donations from serum life science, fully owned by the Poonawalla family, is the largest gift of Oxford University for vaccine research.
This will be used to make new facilities to accommodate more than 300 research scientists on the old road campus.
Named after the research of the Poonawalla vaccine, it will accommodate the head office and the main laboratory space of Jenner Institute where the University of Oxford / Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccines are developed, as well as other leading Oxford teams such as those who develop malaria vaccines.
It will be built on the same site as the University of Pandemi Pandemi Science Center which was recently announced and two buildings will share infrastructure and supporting facilities for scientific research and academic teaching and together will form a unique hub that will contribute to the readiness of global pandemics .
