Coimbatore: a swab sample of a 42-year-old passenger from Singapore was tested positive for Coronavirus on the eighth day of his quarantine house.
The blood and swab sample was sent to the State Public Health Laboratory in Chennai for testing genomes.
Passengers arrived at Coimbatore airport on December 2.
He landed in Chennai and took a flight to Coimbatore from there.
Meanwhile, Health Officers from Chennai told passengers to the Authority Airport Coimbatore.
Upon arrival, the swab sample was collected and he was tested negatively for Covid -19.
He was asked to stay in the quarantine of the house.
However, the swab sample was collected at the end of the house quarantine period that was positively tested for Covid.
While three family members were tested negatively, officials had asked them to isolate themselves in their homes.
However, health officials said passengers could not be infected with Omicron variants as genes ‘s’ detected when the swab sample was tested through the Taqpath kit.
The omicron variant cannot be detected thus with the Taqpath kit, but the dropout of genes in the sample is considered an indication of the delta variant or omicron.
Deputy Deputy Coimbatore Director of Health Services Dr.
P Aruna said the genes were detected in the case of this passenger, but we will wait for the results of testing genomes.
It also does not need to panic because Singapore has been removed from the list of ‘At Risk’ countries a week ago, he said.
31 passengers have so far arrived from high-risk countries for coimbatore, he said.
Although no one of them was tested positively on the day of their arrival, this was the first case to be tested positive after the settlement of the quarantine of the house.
