Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) closes three more illegal COIR manufacturing units in Thimmdaguthu Village near Pollachi on Tuesday.
Units – SMT Cools 1 & 2 and Palaniappa Coco Peat – are excessive to exploit ground water and remove waste in the nearest waterbodies.
They also cause air pollution, affect people in the nearest area.
P management, district environmental engineer, TNPCB, said the closing order was issued for the unit a few days ago based on an order by the National Tribunal (NGT) school principal, which brought Suo Moto about violations by the units by the units.
Next, the electrical connection to three units was cut off.
Manimaran said they had taken action against units under the section of the 33A Air (Conservation and Pollution Control) Act, 1974.
According to officials, there were around 2,000 sword manufacturing units in the district.
Six of them have been closed due to violations so far.
And three of them were closed in September this year based on the command of NGT Southern Bench.
In September, the main bench did not issue direction to crack down on the unit that polluted air and water.
It has also directed the central pollution control body to repeat only units in the white category.
TNPCB then brought the Pith Pitch unit under the orange category of white last month, to make them follow a more stringent pollution control norm.
The industry is a red, orange, green and white code based on their pollution emission level, with the least pollution categories.
