Kanpur: A lawyer was shot dead allegedly during the election of the Kanpur Bar Association (KBA) on the District Court campus on Friday.
Police said lawyers, identified as Gautam Dutt, suffered serious gunshot wounds and were rushed to the Lajpat Rai (LLR) hospital where he died during treatment.

Previously, following total chaos during voting, the elders committee on Friday canceled the KBA election.
Shankar Dutt Tripathi, a member of the committee, was announced on Friday night that the Committee had decided to cancel the election due to severe violations of rules and regulations by candidates for their contests and supporters in the booth.
The new date for the election has not been decided, he added.
Voting began about two and a half hours late and closed at 4pm after reports of chaos in the chamber located in the district court building received by the committee.
The committee somehow managed to collect a ballot box from outlets and took them to his room.
Their candidates and supporters also reached there and in the midst of the heated argument, the committee announced to cancel the election, which led to shooting by several people.

After the selection cancellation was announced, two advocate groups clashed in court compounds and one group fired a shot against the others.
According to sources, Gautam suffered a shot injury and rushed to the LLR hospital.
The committee member called the incident it was unfortunate and said that the incident reduced the image of advocate.
