Chennai: According to the new guidelines issued by the School Education Department for Transfer Counseling, a teacher can work in school for a maximum of eight years.
However, the guideline said, it would apply prospectively which means the rules will be implemented for new teachers who are appointed after this notification.
“Teachers who have completed eight years of service in certain schools will be transferred mandatory.
These teachers will be given priority and are permitted to participate in counseling before public counseling occurs,” Guidelines issued by Kakarla Usha School Education Secretary on Saturday.
“If applied to the existing teacher, more than 80% of teachers may have to be transferred.
So, it is being introduced only for new recruits,” said an official.
To overcome the issues of vacancies in the northern district, the policy has mandated five years of service in the priority block for new recruitment.
This priority block will be identified by vacancies.
The existing teachers work in non-priority blocks and are willing to work in priority blocks through general counseling need to serve at least three years.
Teachers who serve in the priority block will get preferences than others during general counseling.
Counseling will be carried out during May or at the end of the first or second term and no transfer counseling will be carried out during the academic session.
P Patric Raymond, Secretary General of the Federation of Postgraduate TN TN, said the purpose of introducing the maximum eight-year service government in school was not clear.
“The department must provide priority to the teacher who was transferred to take part in the strike held during the AIADMK regime,” he said.
