WASHINGTON: White House Medical Advisor Anthony Fauci on Sunday urged Americans who traveled over the upcoming holidays to get a booster shot and always wear a mask in a crowded public space to help slow the spread of the omicron variant of Coronavirus.
Variants that are easily transmitted are “raging in the world,” and traveling will increase the risk of infection even among people who are vaccinated, said Fauci in an interview with NBC “Meet the Press.” “We will see a breakthrough infection – there is no doubt about it,” Fauci, Director of the National Allergy Institute and infectious diseases, said.
Omicron has been found through testing in more than 20 years and around 90 countries so far after being identified in South Africa and Hong Kong at the end of November.
