Chennai: Chief of Minister Tamil Nadu M on Tuesday urged the Minister of External Affairs J Jaishankar to secure direct release of 68 fishing boats and 75 fishing vessels in Sri Lanka government custody.
The Union Minister for Fisheries L Murugan also urged Jaishankar to take the relevant authority for the liberation of fishermen immediately.
In a letter to the Union Minister, a copy handed over to him by the DMK member of Parliament led by the Parliamentary Party leader T.
Balu, the head of the minister appointed the last arrest of 13 fishermen from the Sri Lanka coast guard.
The fishermen were taken to the Fisheries Port of Mayiilatei.
“The worrying frequency in which the incident of detention and this attack occurred guaranteed urgent attention.
Our lives and livelihoods of our fishermen must be protected when they are fishing in traditional waters of Palk Bay,” Stalin said.
The center must win over the Sri Lankan government through a diplomatic channel to end the Sri Lankan naval intimidation tactics, said Minister of Chief.

If 43 fishermen from Rameswaram were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Saturday, 12 fishermen from Mandapam in Ramanathapuram were arrested on Sunday.
There were 19 incidents of arrest and attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy this year.
Two examples of attacks and death of five fishermen have been reported during this period, he shows.
