Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Monday detected four new cases from the Omicron variant of Covid-19 took the total case in the country to 15.
Two new variants were detected in patients aged 41 and 67 years.
They were the mother and grandmother of a 17-year-old patient in Thiruvananthapuram who came from England on December 9 along with his father, mother and sister.
His grandmother is on the contact list.
Two other cases of the Omicron variant were detected from Thiruvananthapuram – a 32-year-old man came from Nigeria on December 17 and a 27-year-old woman included in the flight passenger contact list.
He came from England on December 12.
The new variant was confirmed in testing carried out at Rajiv Gandhi Center for biotechnology here.
The state has detected its first Omicron case on December 12 in Ernakulam Regency when someone who has returned from England was tested positively.
