PANAJI: Twice Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, after a stop from BJP along with seven board members, joined the congress on Wednesday.
Congress who suffered fresh setbacks by quitting from the former Curorate Mla Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco two days ago, believing Almeida would help strengthen the party in Mormugao where his presence was nil.
“I have seen BJP carefully.
It’s no longer the party when the Parragar lives and who is my teacher,” Almeida said after his induction in Congress.
He said he was happy to join Congress, a “secular party”, and that his decision to get out of BJP was taken after discussion with his supporters.
Almeida also said Vasco people were not happy because the port city did not see developments under the BJP government.
However, believing that his decision to leave BJP is largely due to the signal “hard and clear” by the party that will not be given a ticket.
He also demanded that BJP provide an adequate number of tickets to minority candidates.
Two weeks ago, rival Arch Almeida Krishna Salkar, which was contested as independent in the 2017 poll, joined BJP.
Salkar is likely to be a BJP candidate in Vasco.
The opposition leader drawn Kamat said the famous “use and throws” policy of BJP and it provided the same treatment to Almeida.
Furthermore, he said “Goodwill” Almeida will help strengthen the party at Mormugao Taluka.
Despite having other offers, Almeida has chosen Congress, Kamat said.
“Almeida has a clean picture and is connected with ordinary people.
I am sure the Vasco people will stand with him.” Goa Girish Chodankar congress president said that in addition to seven board members, more than 100 party workers and BJP officials have joined Almeida and more will follow.
Congress will travel membership in the port city, he said.
Vice President Sanklap Amonkar, who lost against MLA sat BJP and former Minister of Milind rose with a narrow margin from a slightly more than 100 votes in the 2017 poll, said their efforts to do well at Mormugao Taluka had received Fillipwith Almeida.
The Congress Congress table responsible for Dinesh Gundu Rao said BJP has become a negative and destructive force and needs to be discarded.
In the 2017 assembly poll, BJP did it well at Mormugao Taluka who won the four constituencies while his appearance in Talaskas was bad.
It should be seen if it will be able to maintain four seats in front of the recent controversy.
Following the alleged sexual exploitation of a woman last week was forced to resign as minister.
Earlier this week, in a sudden movement, former Cortim Mla Alina Saldanha resigned from BJP and joined AAP.
