Chennai: IIT Madras Students have launched ‘Unmute,’ campaign on menstrual hygiene management and self-defense against sexual harassment.
Students partner with NGOs as part of the initiative such as sanitary distribution in Bengaluru, regardless of the online session on gender inequality and hygial management awareness sessions for school girls in Chennai.
“Our students hope to create a long-term impact by helping women to pursue a confident life,” said Ratna Kumar Annabattula, faculty advisors for Shaastra 2022, IIT Madras.
“Every year, around 23 million girls drop out of school in India as soon as they start menstruation.
About 62 percent of women in the age group 15-24 years still rely on fabrics during the period,” said the release from the Institute.

The speaker will explain the need for menstrual hygiene and how the lack of it can cause health conditions.
