Chennai: Chief Minister Tamil Nadu M Stalin on Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who asked him to tell the Ministry of Home Affairs to release central assistance to the state to take temporary and permanent infrastructure restoration damaged by rain.
The state government is looking for RS 1,510 Crore to temporary restoration and RS 4,719 Crore for permanent restoration infrastructure such as roads, bridges and public buildings.
“As you know, the state witnesses unprecedented rain in the northeast rainy season this year, causes heavy flooding, inundancy, loss of human and animal life, plant damage standing and infrastructure,” CM wrote in a letter to PM.
The state takes a quick assistance operation and restores normally in the shortest possible time, he said and noted that the central team assessed the level of damage during his visit to areas affected by the flood in the country in November.
Pointing into three memorandum submitted on November 16 and 25 which seek help assistance, cm said the country’s financial position was under “heavy stress” because the covid pandemic and the next flood situation only persot it.
The state disaster response fund has also been fully utilized, he added.
“As you might approve, affected people need to be compensated earliest to allow them to get the impact of the current flood and also to reconstruct damaged infrastructure so that transportation, irrigation, education, and others are re-incorporated,” CM said .
