Hyderabad: Narrow roads and traffic congestion continue to disturb commuter throughout the Old City area because many road development work remains delayed due to lack of funds and other legal disputes.
Meram traffic across the old city is not new to residents because chronic congestion has increased because the city is developing.
“Most urban growth focuses on the western and north side of Hyderabad and we have been ignored in the worst possible way,” Mohammed Rizvi, a resident of Himmatpura, told Tii.
The most common ordinary traffic congestion on the Chandrayangutta road, where various road development work is still developing.
Greater Officials Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has not completed the acquisition of property for widening road work in Himmatpura to Fateh Darwaza through Dhoo Bowli.
The very delay in completing the project has made traffic congestion worse at the last moment.
A proper case will be the Flyover Chandrayangutta extension work that has progressed with the speed of the snail.
The extension of the flyover along with the widening of the road was approved by the committee standing back in 2018 and since then the delay emerged because of other jobs, such as construction of disposal pipes, waste pipelines and underground electrical cables, taken simultaneously.
Since then, until now, the traffic elongated from Chandrayangutta’s main intersection to Hafiz Baba Nagar, Jalan Falaknuma and the Gate Road Kandikal.
“Traffic during rush hour stretches more than two kilometers in this area and we mostly find no traffic police there or only one house keeper traffic to streamline all stretches,” said Sheikh Ajmal Basha, said the jewelry shop owner, say.
GHMC officials took 20 road development jobs in the past two years in the constituency of Chandrayangutta, Charminar and Yakutpura to overcome existing congestion.
“In Yakutpura constituency, we have obtained more than 600 properties to complete three main road widening projects.
Around 370 properties are for the work of widening the road from Himmatpura to Fateh Darwaza through Dhoo Bowli.
The old city will see a significant difference in this year’s traffic scenario , “said a senior GHMC official.
