CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K S Alagiri on Saturday said the delayed approach of the central government in giving licence to pharmaceutical industries led to the deaths of three lakh people during the pandemic.
The Modi government had failed in handling the Covid-19 pandemic, Alagiri said in a statement.
He lambasting the BJP’s celebration to mark the completion of seven years of the Modi government.
“It is seven years of suffering rather than achievements,” he said.
From economy to relationships with foreign countries, and health to education, the present government had failed miserably.
He said when the Modi government talk about its achievements, it should also talk about the shortage of beds, oxygen and life-saving medicines that led to deaths of many people However, the BJP was building a narrative that the country was on the path of development while its economy had hit rock bottom.
He said the government adopted divisive politics in the name of religion for its political gain.
It toppled nine governments elected by the people in 2019 and destroyed the spirit of federalism, besides introducing contentious farm laws and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, he said.
