New Delhi: Special cell Delhi police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the Chhatrasal Stadium fight which leads to the death of the wrestler and leaves two injured friends, officials said on Thursday.
The defendant, Parveen Dabas, was a resident of Sultanpur Dabas Village, they said, adding that he brought a prize of Rs 50,000 information that led to his arrest.
Olympic medal twice Sushil Kumar was arrested in this case.
Acting on the tip-off of Dabas came to his village to meet with his colleague, the police put a trap near the Prem Piyao road in the village on Monday and arrested the defendant, deputy commissioner of Police (special cells) Jashiet Singh said.
Dabas told the police that he, along with Kumar and 18 to 20 of his colleagues, armed with hockey sticks and wooden sticks, had beaten members of their rival group on the night of Intervention May 4 and May 5 at the Chhatrasal Stadium here, said DCP.
Sagar Dhankar, Sonu Mahaal, Amit and other people from other groups suffered serious injuries in the attack.
The attack was arranged by Kumar and his colleagues to complete a personal score with their rival group members to teach them lessons and establish their dominance in the area, Singh said.
Dhankar gave up on his injuries in the hospital the next day.
He was a nephew from the famous Bathedi gangster, who was angry at his death after being beaten by Kumar and his colleagues, police said.
Kumar received support from Neeraj Bawana Geng in property offerings whose bad allegations and in terrorizing members of his rival group, they said, as they added that a total of 18 people has so far been captured in this case.
