New Delhi: The upcoming AFC Asian Cup will make history because the referee video assistant (VAR) will be used for the first time in India from the continental competition quarter-final stage.
The tournament will be played in three places in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune from January 20 to February 6.
The event will see Var made his tournament debut when the team went out for the match from January 30 and so on.
This technology will be used until the last match on February 6 in two Knockout places – Dy Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai and Sports Complex Shriv Shiv Chhatrapati in Balewadi, Pune.
Preparation for installation and technology settings have begun in their respective places.
Apart from the stadium on the day of the match, the referee training site will be equipped with similar var settings and simulators will also be available for referees in their hotel.
AFC does not leave the stone that is missed in ensuring the highest referee standards in tournaments with many technical tests carried out at the stadium and training location before Var was officially introduced in this country, the Asian football confederation (AFC) said.
During the tournament, six dedicated video match officials will have access to seven different direct camera feeds to check every action in the field.
There are four decision categories that can be reviewed by VAR – Purpose / No purpose, penalty / no penalty, direct red card, and incorrect identity in giving a red or yellow card.
Var and referee match officials in the field will work together to create a decision category where var or referees in the field can start a review.
After being reviewed, Var can recommend the referee in the field to cancel their decision if a clear and clear error has been seen.
Or, the referee in the field can choose to conduct a field review at (ofr) by stopping the game and reviewing the recording of the screen that will be installed in the referee review area behind the fourth official, right outside the touchline to throw.
At any time, the referee in the field can ignore the advice of VAR.
