Thiruvananthapuram: This district was declared a winner at the third 2020 National Water Award on Friday.
The district won the award in the ‘District District Zone’ category.
The agricultural awards of groundwater and national water awards are launched by Jal Shakti ministers with the aim of encouraging all stakeholders to adopt the innovative practices of groundwater augmentation with harvesting rainwater and artificial refilling, promoting the efficiency of water use, recycling and reuse of water and water Making back.
Awareness through community participation in targeted regions which results in the sustainability of the development of groundwater resources, adequate capacity building among stakeholders.
In accordance with the guidelines, efforts made in river banks, river rejuvenation, artificial refill structures, micro irrigation use, enhancement of encroachment, pollution reduction steps, roof rainwater harvesting is included in the criterion of 12 points.
Local bodies in trivandrum such as City Corporation, Karakulam Panchayat, Nedumangad Municipality and other rural Panchayats have taken various efforts aimed at restoring water bodies and reducing pollution.
