Bhubaneswar: Registering a leap of more than 1,000 Covid cases in the last 24 hours, the state on Sunday adds 4,714 infections from between 70,200 samples tested, taking the level of participation to 6.71%.
Sources of Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) said about 1,100 samples were included in the order of genomes since November 29 (after the omicron variant detection in India), the results of seventy-five have, so far, back positive for new viral strains.
This means 6.81% of samples carry new omicron variants and more transmit.
Experts believe at a quick speed with the omicron variant spread, it will soon be far more common than Delta.
In the ongoing Covid wave, the state has added 15,614 new cases since January 1.
Three districts – Khurda (1,619), Sambalpur (437) and Sundargarh (662) – contributed 57% of Kaseload the state on Sunday.
Of the three districts, two are in West Odisha.
Nuabada, which is the second wave center, has been low in the number of infections until now.
