Kolkata: Omicron variant of the SARS-COV-2 virus has less than two weeks surpassing Delta’s tensions in the Kolkata population with seven of the 10 covid-19 samples collected in the last week of December and sent for the sequencing of the genome to the ‘caring variant’, according to National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) in Kalyani.
Driven by Omicron who was very transmitting, Kolkata on Saturday recorded 7,337 new cases, namely 39% of the number of Covid Daily Bengal 18.802, even as the level of participants of the country surged to 29% from 26.3% in 24 hours.
On Friday, the city has recorded 7,484 new and bengal cases of 18,213 fresh infections but the number of tests carried out around 6,000 more that on Saturday.

From detecting the first Omicron case without a history of travel in the fourth week of December, we have now confirmed 200 Omicron variants in a sample that has undergone the genome sequencing in Nibmg.
This week, seven of 10 Covid samples turned into an omicron, a sign that the population was now infected with omicron and spread exponentially -2 India (Insacog).
Apart from the sharp rise in infection, the mortality rate (CFR) in Bengal between December 25 and January 7 has 0.2%, which experts are believed, shows the fact that omicrons are less ferocious.
Most of the deaths recorded in these two weeks are in the 75-plus age group.
